The word endometriosis arises from endometrium i.e innermost layer of uterus which
grows and shed under the effect of hormones estogen(E2) and (P4).
This endometrium is supposed to grow only inside uterus every month under E2 n P4
released from ovarian follicle. It sheds once ovrian follicle dies out causing drop
in hormone level. This shedding of endometrial layer is seen as menses. Again
endometrium regenerates as new follicle starts growing.
Unfortunately in few woman it grows outside uterus causing ENDOMETRIOSIS.
When outside uterus it causes lot of symptoms.
SITES WHERE IT GROWS.
1)OVARY-via fallopian tube endometrium drops in ovary. It grows there destroys the
ovary and eggs ,causing adhesions around ovary ,preventing release of egg from
follicle-infertility.
2)it releases toxins like cytokines which damage sperms and eggs-infertility.
3)scarring of fallopian tube so altered tubo-ovarian relation -infertility.
4)Peritoneum-ie inside abdomen -it grows and regresses under hormones ,cause
scarring causing extremely painful menses.
5)it grows and penetrates uterine muscle causing heavy bleeding and extreme pain.
6)rectal pain if penetrates rectum-pain during passing stool.
